Holism in a nutshell

A couple of weeks ago I recommended you a series called “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries” which is a nice, mysterious TV show with a colourful, aristocratic protagonist, titular Miss Fisher. This time I’m coming to you with another detective series titled “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency”.

This series might be about a detective, just like “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries”, but in this case, the creators of the series give us a total rollercoaster ride. The TV show, based on a book of the same name, starts with a bloody, horrible murder of several people committed in a hotel room. Then, a series of unexpected events occurs which makes one of the main protagonists, Todd (played by Elijah Wood which one can recognise from “The Lord of the Rings” movies) seem responsible for the whole thing. Since then, he starts collaborating (although not completely of his own choosing) with a titular character, Dirk Gently, to clear his name and find the real guilty person. As simple, unoriginal or even banal it seems, this is a story which goes far beyond something that one would call a typical crime story – not to mention some fantastic elements included as well. Apart from the bizarre and miminy-piminy detective we get four crazy men destroying almost everything they encounter and psycho killer, among others (won’t say anything more because I’m afraid I’d say too much).

Although one can sometimes question characters’ actions and their ability to reasonably judge a situation (there were a few moments like that, not many fortunately), I think it’s a very good series, crazy and sometimes unpredictable. However, I’m afraid it can also make it not bearable for some people – nevertheless, I encourage you to judge by yourself.

Post-Christmas

As I’m writing this post, my stomach is full of pierogi and herrings and the blood in my veins has transformed into the red borsch and my grandma’s sweet apricot liqueur (low-alcohol, don’t worry). Of course food is not the most important thing now, but since it’s Christmas, why not indulge ourselves with the feasts full of gorgeous meals, delicious sweets and high class beverages worth Greek gods. Well, Christmas is already over and I hope everyone spent them the way they like the most, with family or by themselves, with tons of homemade food or pierogi bought in the supermarket, with presents under the Christmas tree or watching “Home Alone” for the hundredth time.
